Lesotho Blog 2025, Day 13 - Final Product

Lesotho Blog Day 13-Lumela everyone, it鈥檚 me again! Today was our last day at the Habitat site. I had a great time; it was beyond rewarding to see the final project come together. In 8-10 days, we built an entire house. That鈥檚 pretty crazy if you really think about it! I enjoyed the hard labor aspect of this experience as well as the service aspect. I came on this trip with little expectation and an unequivocal goal; to help whoever I can in any way that I can. The completion of this project in specific made me feel another step closer to fulfilling that goal. The grandmother who鈥檚 house we built was beyond grateful, you could see the pure happiness all over her face. It truly warmed my heart to see. Not only was she a sweetheart, but all the workers 鈥 from habitat for humanity and the local builders- were amazing as well. They helped make this experience unforgettable. The environment was welcoming and collaborative. We were all there building a house for a family in need with goals akin. It is easy to take our luxuries for granted and fail to recognize how fortunate and blessed we truly are. Having the opportunity to be in this beautiful country, create beautiful memories, and be of service to beautiful people is more than I could have asked for. Oh鈥 I also got to do an interview for the habitat site which was super cool. I was very honored to be picked, wish I would鈥檝e articulated my words better, but I鈥檓 glad I got to do it! Anyways, the work we did and will continue to do the rest of this trip is of immense value and I will forever hold it close to my heart. A little later in the day me and some of the girls took a hike down to the waterfall and had a little mini adventure. It was gorgeous and very peaceful; I wish the views and experiences never had to end.

Alsoo heyyy Momma, I miss you!

Hello all! This morning, we added our finishing touches on the house. Which is still hard to believe even now. While the end of this once in a lifetime trip is quickly nearing its end the overall experience is bittersweet. Getting to know and work with the some of the most hard working yet kind people we could have ever possibly met will forever be a huge blessing. The overwhelmingly welcoming community has allowed us as foreigners to soon forget the geographic and cultural difference we once had between us. We have all had the opportunity to get our hands dirty. Getting to mix cement, build and plaster the walls, installing windows and more. While I鈥檝e enjoyed doing the work and meeting my newfound friends the unique scenery along the way will be the hardest to leave behind. Especially the breath-taking night sky in Ramabanta. At times it almost feels like you can reach out to touch the stars! Thinking about the fact that we leave for our next location on Friday has me missing them already.

Sincerely,
Jayla Thompson
